This week we launched our new reading initiative Daily Supported Reading (DSR) in Year One. The children have astounded us with their reading and comprehension skills. Everyone in Year One has worked so hard to make sure the programme is delivered well and Mrs Haffenden and Mrs Clifton have gone above and beyond to ensure the resources are ready and organised each day. We read books about bears fishing adventures and learnt the journey a letter takes to get to New Zealand. Everyone has read more than two whole books with an adult and are keen for more. “I want to do the one about the Jackal because he’s like a fox” (Imogen, Year One) “I learnt about an author and illustrator. He’s called Nick and you probably know his books Miss Clifford. I actually read one to you in Reception. Percy and the park or something I think” (Axel, Year One). We have loved reading with all of your children every day and their progress and engagement is clear to see. We will keep sharing our love of reading with you and can’t wait for our new books next week.
Thank you for coming in Mufti today to raise money for our Library project. By next term the new stock will have been added and children can begin to bring books home and share their new stories and skills with you! Thank you for helping your children be the best they can be! They certainly proved how amazing they were this week!
